There is no beach here in the conventional sense — just flat rock, crystal-clear water, and one of Sydney's least-known but most outstanding snorkel trails. The underwater trail marker buoys lead through a kelp forest community of extraordinary biodiversity, with blue grouper, wobbegong sharks, and octopus regularly encountered. The complete absence of sand means Gordons Bay is also the most practical swimming spot on the coastal walk on a windy day when the sand beaches are uncomfortable.

Blue Fish Point, Bondi Headland

On the southern headland of Bondi, below the Icebergs pool and accessible via a narrow path that branches from the cliff walk and descends through coastal scrub to the rock platform, Blue Fish Point is a popular fishing spot among the suburb's older local fishing community and almost entirely unknown to visitors. A series of flat rock platforms at the water's edge provide excellent positions for watching the swells roll through the Icebergs channel, and on calm days the rock pools at the water's edge shelter extraordinary marine life. At the southern extreme of Sydney's eastern beach corridor, thirty minutes by bus from Bondi through the suburb of Maroubra, Malabar Beach sits within the boundaries of Kamay Botany Bay National Park and sees almost no tourist traffic despite being one of Sydney's most naturally pristine ocean swimming spots. The beach is enclosed by headlands, bordered by national park, and has no commercial development within the reserve — no café, no surf club, no beach hire.
