Brač's Secret Shores: Coves the Tour Boats Never Reach
Brač is larger than most visitors realise — 40 kilometres from west to east, with a northern coastline that faces the Brač channel and receives almost no tourist traffic. The island's internal road network has improved, but the access tracks to its most secluded bays remain rough enough to deter most visitors. These forgotten coves — sandy in the north, rocky in the west, and wild throughout — are the Brač that existed before Zlatni Rat became famous, and they reward the small effort required to find them.
Top Hidden Beaches in Brač
Lovrečina Bay (North Coast, Roman Ruins)
Lovrečina Bay on Brač's north coast is one of the island's few sandy beaches and one of its most historically significant sites — the ruins of a Roman villa and a 5th-century early Christian basilica sit directly above the beach. The access road is unmarked and the bay sees almost no day-trip traffic despite its extraordinary beauty: sandy bottom, calm turquoise water, Roman stonework in the sea, and complete quiet. This is the Adriatic that archaeologists dream about — history and wilderness in the same frame.
Velo Lučice (East Brač)
The eastern end of Brač beyond Sumartin is the island's least-visited section. Velo Lučice is a cove accessible only by a rough track that most rental cars prefer to avoid — which is exactly why it remains empty. The bay is sheltered, the water clear, and the surrounding landscape of maquis scrub and dry-stone walls is quintessential Dalmatia without the boutique-hotel overlay. Bring everything you need: there are no facilities within walking distance.
Farska Plaža (North of Supetar)
Farska Plaža is a small pebble beach 20 minutes' walk north of Supetar, past the town's cemetery and along an unmarked path above the cliffs. Despite being within easy walking distance of the island's main ferry terminal, the beach is almost always empty — most visitors arriving by ferry head directly to Zlatni Rat by bus and never explore Supetar's immediate coastline. The cove is sheltered, the water calm and clear, and the walk passes some of the island's oldest olive trees.
