Crvena Uvala (Red Cove)

Crvena Uvala — Red Cove — is a secluded bay 3 kilometres south of Rovinj along the coastal path, named for the rust-red Venetian ruins visible on its headland. The beach is pebble and flat rock, the water is crystal clear, and the cove sees very few visitors despite being within easy walking or cycling distance of the old town. It is one of the best snorkelling spots near Rovinj, with posidonia meadows and abundant sea life in its sheltered bay. Arrive in the morning; by afternoon a handful of locals with kayaks may appear, but rarely more.

Punta Corrente Cape (East of Zlatni Rt)

The eastern cape of the Zlatni Rt park — Punta Corrente — faces away from the main beach areas and towards the bay between Rovinj and the offshore islands. The swimming here is from flat limestone platforms above deep, clear water, and the exposure means there is always a slight breeze. The cape is a 15-minute walk from the park entrance, but most visitors stay on the western beach side; the eastern platform is consistently less populated and offers good snorkelling over the rocky bottom.

Kuvi Bay (South of Rovinj)

Kuvi Bay is approximately 45 minutes' walk south of Rovinj along the coastal path, beyond the last of the organised camping beaches. The bay is a small, entirely natural rocky cove with no facilities whatsoever — no beach bar, no sun loungers, no boat traffic. The water is warm and clear, the maquis scrub comes down to the water's edge, and on a weekday morning it is entirely possible to have the bay to yourself. The walk back to Rovinj along the coastal path, with the town's campanile appearing above the treeline, is one of the best coastal walks in Istria.
