The Bang Rak district along Charoen Krung Road — Bangkok's oldest road, built in the 1860s — is the city's most historically rich food corridor. This stretch between the BTS Saphan Taksin station and the Chao Phraya River contains generations-old shophouse restaurants, legendary curry houses, hole-in-the-wall noodle shops, and some of Bangkok's best new restaurant openings in converted heritage buildings.
Highlights include: the 80-year-old Nai Mong Hoi Thod for crispy oyster omelettes; the riverside Chote Chitr for traditional Thai royal court cuisine; the Talat Noi neighborhood behind the market for old-school Chinese-Thai street food; and the increasingly vibrant restaurant strip along Charoen Krung Soi 24-38 for Bangkok's finest new dining. Take the Chao Phraya Express to Sathon/Central Pier or BTS to Saphan Taksin.
