Overview

The El Obayed Hotel for Armed Forces stands on the Mediterranean coast of Marsa Matruh, the Egyptian resort city renowned for its turquoise lagoons and white sand beaches — among the clearest and most striking on the entire Mediterranean. Marsa Matruh is located approximately 300 kilometres west of Alexandria, close to the Libyan border, and serves as a popular summer retreat for Egyptians escaping the heat of Cairo and the Delta. The area also carries significant historical weight as a key theatre of the North African campaigns of World War II, with Rommel's Cave and the El Alamein battlefield within driving distance.

Rated 5 stars with a guest score of 6.2 out of 10 from 78 reviews, the property primarily serves Egyptian military personnel and their families, though civilian guests may also access it depending on availability. The hotel's primary draw is its setting on one of Africa's most beautiful coastlines, and it suits families and groups seeking a beachfront base in an unspoiled corner of the Mediterranean with relatively few international tourists.
