Namaste (hello)
The long journey with a stopover in Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, is over and I’ve already spent my first hours in New Delhi.
The arrival was super quick, both passport control and buying and activating a SIM card for my phone, which cost me 500 rupees, that’s €5, with unlimited data. Converting rupees to euros is easy: you just knock off 2 zeros.
Then I took the express bus from the airport to the new New Delhi railway station, which took almost 1 hour and cost me 75 rupees, in other words 75 cents.
Then I walked to the hotel to check in and managed to get there without being run over by any of the many vehicles on the road. The hotel is right next to the Main Bazaar, where they sell everything and until late.
After going up to the room to drop my bag, and despite the late hour, I still went out for a wander. I needed to buy bottled water, which is essential here even for brushing your teeth, and toilet paper, because here they use a bidet spray to clean themselves, and I even took a chance on buying and eating some biscuits made on a grill in the middle of the street, which were really good.
Now I’m going to get some rest, because I haven’t slept much the last few nights and it’s 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of Portugal here, and tomorrow I want to get up with the sun to make the most of the day.
