Best Beaches in Hvar | Croatia Beach Guide
Hvar is the sunniest island in Croatia — officially recording over 2,700 hours of sunshine per year — and the most sophisticated of the Dalmatian Islands, where medieval stone architecture, lavender fields, and boutique hotels have attracted a well-travelled European crowd since the 1980s. The island stretches 68 kilometres, making it Croatia's longest island, with landscapes ranging from the busy port town of Hvar Town in the northwest to the wild limestone wilderness of the Stari Grad Plain (UNESCO World Heritage) in the east.
The bay of Dubovica, accessible by water taxi (15 minutes) or a 45-minute walk through olive groves, features a secluded pebble cove with some of the clearest water in the Adriatic. The Pakleni Islands — a chain of fourteen small islands a 10-minute water taxi ride from Hvar Town — offer quiet bays, naturist beaches, and excellent snorkelling spots largely undiscovered by mainstream tourism.
Hvar Town has evolved into Croatia's most fashionable summer destination, with a superyacht-dotted harbour, boutique hotels in 16th-century stone palaces, and nightlife centred on Carpe Diem Beach and Hula Hula Beach Bar. The balance between genuine cultural history and modern glamour makes it unlike any other beach destination in the Mediterranean.
