Just to let you know I've arrived. It's so cold that I already look like a tomato.

I'll be staying the first few nights in downtown Cancún, at the Nomads Hostel, near the bus terminal. I paid €50 for 4 nights in a dorm.

Yesterday, after checking in and with the advantage of being 5 hours behind Portugal, I still had time to catch the local R1 bus for 12 pesos (70 cents) from Puerto de Cancún to Playa Delfines.

Along the way the driver kept honking (the horn is an iron cable fixed vertically next to the windscreen) at everyone, asking if they wanted to hop on, and he even stopped the bus to chat with an acquaintance and once more to buy a Coca-Cola.

It's so hot that the driver has a fan above his head and his seat is made of netting to let the air circulate. The bus also comes equipped with a sticker of Our Lady and another saying the driver is monitored 24 hours a day by his wife.

Dinner afterwards was at a bar, eating nachos and drinking a local beer called Sol, a lively bar with live music, flaming food, magicians and people drinking beer through a funnel.

Yesterday, when I got to my hostel, a salsa night was under way and I, who was already dying to go to bed after the long journey, had to put my plans on hold.

The hostel also organises movie nights, trips to the beach and, in the morning, yoga classes at 8:30 am. I didn't miss it and I've already marked my attendance at the yoga class.
