Ibiza Beaches: More Than Just Nightlife
Ibiza's reputation for world-class nightlife has long overshadowed what may be its greatest asset: extraordinary beaches. The island's western coast, in particular, offers some of the most spectacular beach scenery in the Mediterranean — translucent turquoise water in protected coves, fine white sand, and sunsets that regularly appear in travel photography around the world.
Ibiza has beaches for every mood: the sophisticated lounger scene at Ushuaïa Beach Club, the hippy market vibes of Las Dalias followed by a swim at Cala Nova, the family-perfect calm waters of Cala Bassa, and the dramatic clifftop views above Cala d'Hort with Es Vedrà rising from the sea. No Spanish island packs more diversity into its coastline.
Top Beaches in Ibiza
Cala Comte (Cala Conta)
Consistently voted one of the best beaches in Europe, Cala Comte is Ibiza in its most beautiful form. The beach actually comprises two coves with a rocky promontory between them, each with different character. The water is a kaleidoscope of blues — turquoise in the shallows, deepening to cobalt offshore. Sunset here, with the islands of Es Vedrà and Illa des Bosc silhouetted against an orange sky, is one of the great natural spectacles of the Mediterranean. Arrive by 11am in July and August to secure a spot.
Cala Bassa
A protected south-facing bay with some of the calmest, clearest water on the island — perfect for families and anyone who wants to swim without battling waves. The Cala Bassa Beach Club operates one of the island's most relaxed and stylish beach club experiences. Regular boat services from Sant Antoni make it easily accessible without a car.
Cala d'Hort
For a beach with drama, Cala d'Hort is in a class of its own. The cove itself is attractive, but what sets it apart is the view: Es Vedrà, a mysterious 400-metre limestone rock rising vertically from the sea, dominates the horizon. The water is clear and good for swimming. Several chiringuitos (beach bars) serve fresh fish. Magical at sunset.
Aguas Blancas
Ibiza's most beautiful nudist beach is also one of its most dramatic — accessed down a winding road and short path, the beach sits beneath white limestone cliffs (the name means "white waters"). The waves here are bigger than in the sheltered western coves, making it a favourite with those who like a bit of surf energy. Authentic and surprisingly uncrowded.
Best Time to Visit Ibiza Beaches
June and September are the sweet spots: warm water (25°C), hot days, and noticeably fewer crowds than August. May is also excellent if you prefer a quieter, more relaxed island. July and August are peak season — beautiful but extremely busy and expensive.
